As we bought our first piece of transfer ware 10 years ago ( it was a gorgeous Mason’s Vista coffee pot) we weren’t setting out to start out a collection. We bought things that we thought were beautiful and that would look great in our kitchen and would make our tea-time a little bit more British. Even more we didn’t feel constrained by what we should or shouldn’t buy. Happy in our ignorance we displayed a mix of pottery and porcelain And why not? There was no scheme, we collected what we really like, what appeals to us personally – and than use it or display it in new or traditional style.
The way of always changing the displayed pieces, sometimes forming small groups, combining single pieces with silver or crystal objects inspired us to go on.
We still don’t know what’s the particular appeal of transfer ware. Is it the way how it graces the shelves of our mahogany cabinet, how you continuously find new patterns and objects or is it the possibility to create an ever changing atmosphere – sometimes nostalgic, sometimes rather modern – but surely the surprised glance in the eyes of visitors to see another mix and match coffee-set on our table.
There was the next phase when we thought about specialising in a certain pattern or subject matter, shape or type of object or factory or maker. But we kept on finding items, that we couldn’t resist. On our trips to England, France and our visits to antique markets we didn’t only find rare and appealing items but got us some literature and wealthy information about the history, the patterns and the potteries.
Earlier this year we made our dream come true and spread out our hobby to a full time job.
This web-site should become a platform to bring the most beautiful items to you. It is designed to give you the possibility to find an addition to your collection, to start off a new hobby or to purchase a gift for a beloved person. We are starting off with red transfer ware, as we already know a range of collectors in the US, which are most frequently asking for high quality items of red transferware. In the near future we will be listing blue, green, brown and black transfer as well as English and continental porcelain.
You will already find items of reknown potteries and many recognisable patterns as well as rare single pieces.
We are listing: Mason’s, Spode, Ridgway, Worcester, Myotts, Wood’s, Johnson Bros., Palissy Pottery, Adams, Wedgwood, Meakin, British Anchor, Grindley, Barker Bros., Crown Ducal, Roayl Doulton, James Kent, Copeland,………
Patterns like:
Spode’s Tower, Willow, Old Britain Castles, English Scenery, Thames River Scenes, Avon Scenes, Memory Lane, Windsor, Woodland, Royal Homes of Britain, Stratford, Bristol,……
To be continued……..
